Project Coordinators: Daniel Alexandrov, Valeria Ivanyushina.
The Study of International Cooperation Project is conducted within the international project «Science and Technology International Cooperation Network for Eastern European and Central Asian Countries» (INCO-NET EECA). Empirical data for the project is INTAS database, that contains a description of 14 640 research groups from 32 countries, as well as interviews with scientists who worked in projects and officials from INTAS program.
INTAS program existed from 1992 to 2006 and was aimed at including scientists from the former Soviet Union into the European scientific process. The work on the study of INTAS program was designed for many years. Articles on the project will be posted as we get results. Quantitative analysis of the database of INTAS projects, supplemented by interviews with project managers, will enable to solve these problems and to answer many questions of sociology of science. The preparatory stage of work is already done. At that stage clean-up of the database and initial processing of the results were done. Now the analysis of the database of the project is being done, different levels of social networks are studied: between countries, between cities and between institutions, between different groups of scientists. The third phase of the project will be connected with the analysis of scientific effectiveness of the participants of INTAS. To identify the mechanisms of scientific cooperation at the micro level, interviews with leaders of St. Petersburg groups involved in INTAS projects started in autumn of 2008.
